REVIEW: BEACH HOUSE HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA

I just took the boys to SoCal to visit the new Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios and wanted to add a couple of beach days to our trip. I took them to my favorite beach town in LA – Hermosa Beach.

We stayed at The Beach House Hermosa Beach Hotel and after a weekend there, I can’t recommend it enough! It’s a fantastic place for families to stay while in Hermosa Beach.

About the Beach House Hermosa Beach, California

It’s cozy but upscale. Has refreshing but classy beach décor and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The lobby reminds you of a comfy, beautiful living room—it has a large fireplace with a sofa and armchairs you can relax in. The spacious rooms are all suites equipped with kitchenettes, and it’s set in the best location of Hermosa Beach.

Location of Beach House Hermosa Beach, California

First off, the location of Beach House Hermosa Beach, California is PRIME.

As in—steps from the beautiful beach. And not just any part of the beach, the spot in the middle of the action. There are numerous volleyball nets, rental shops, and even beach yoga classes. Or you can walk down the pier and enjoy the ocean views.

The only thing between the hotel and the beach is The Strand, a paved promenade that goes on along for 26 miles. You’ll see people walking, biking, rollerblading, or skateboarding by. As a safety precaution, there’s a ‘walk only’ zone right around the Pier.

The Beach House is also right next to buzzy Pier Avenue, full of dining, boutique shops, and live music. You can walk for blocks and discover all kinds of delicious dining and shopping options.  Most of the restaurants offer patio dining so you can enjoy people watching and views of The Strand and the beach.

Hermosa Cyclery is just steps away from the hotel, they have all kinds of different bikes for rent. I rented a bike with a trailer attachment for the kids, and everyone there was lovely! They were super sweet with the kids too and even gave them stickers.

You can easily park your car and never have to use it while you’re here. One of my favorite parts of the area is that it’s 100% walkable!

Rooms at Beach House Hermosa Beach, California

All rooms are super spacious suites with a separate living area and bedroom area. Rooms all have a kitchenette (microwave, mini-fridge, and stove), a private balcony, gas burning fireplace, multiple TVs, a wide work desk, and a Keurig coffee maker. The separate sitting area has a queen-size pullout couch and a table.

I don’t usually comment on beds but the King beds here are very comfortable, and the pillows are even better. They’re perfect! Plush, thick, and very long. Probably the best bedding that I’ve had in a hotel.

The bathrooms are a good size and have a shower AND big bathtub (plus a little rubber ducky with sunglasses that my boys loved). They use L’Occitane bathroom toiletries and have a make-up mirror too, which are great touches for Mamas.

In the work desk, there were a lot of little touches that I loved. A postcard you can mail out, a directory of nearby restaurants, information about things to do in the area, Wi-Fi directions, and Hermosa Beach magazines.

Activities

There’s SO much to do in the area. You can easily just play at the beach all day and enjoy Pier Avenue in the evening.

But if you want even more, there are plenty of other options too!

The hotel has an on-site spa that offers services in their treatment rooms OR in your own room! There’s also beach yoga right in front of the hotel.

Rent a bike and explore the area on The Strand. It’ll take you right to the Redondo Beach Pier, or you can go the other way all the way to Venice Beach.

You can book a sandcastle lesson or surf lessons through the hotel. You can even book a company to plan a picnic on the beach for you in front of the hotel!

Art in Hermosa offers a map of all the murals, statues and local art that you can see.

Plus, the endless activities you can do in the rest of Los Angeles! The front desk is so helpful in recommending all kinds of things to do.

Dining

The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant on-site, but they provide room service from the restaurant next door, Good Stuff. They also have a directory of recommended restaurants that are near the hotel.

They do offer a free Continental breakfast. It’s actually pretty good too—coffee and juices, oatmeal, bagels, fruits, a variety of pastries, and cereal. They have a sitting area inside, but there’s an even better one outside. There’s a heat lamp and it looks out onto The Strand and the beach.

Service

Only two words can describe the service level—top notch! Every person we interacted with was so friendly, and if we passed an employee we were always greeted warmly.

The valet team was helpful in getting everything out of the car for us and even bringing it to our room. They let us know that there were beach chairs we could use, and they also had beach toys for the boys!

We ended up getting there way before check-in time, but the staff got us in the room early. They let me know about the hotel amenities and gave some recommendations about the area.
